The Department of Homeland Security finalized changes to fees for the following:
These fee hikes take effect on June 24, 2019. Regulations require all prospective international students and scholars to pay the SEVIS fee before obtaining a visa at an embassy or consulate abroad. If international students and scholars pay the I-901 SEVIS fee prior to June 24, 2019, but before they obtain a visa or enter the United States, they will not need to pay the difference between the new fee and the old fee.
All new students and scholars except those transferring from another school or institution have to pay the SEVIS fee prior to submitting the application for the visa. This includes students who have been absent from the U.S. for more than five months.
Dependents do not need to pay the fee.
Print out the receipt and keep it as proof of payment. You will need to present it with your visa application. Canadians will need to show it at the port of entry.
