The Bechtel International Center offers a variety of live and recorded workshops designed to answer any employment questions that you may have. Please review these resources and schedule an advising appointment if you have further questions.

Post-Completion OPT Application Workshop: Part 1 (for Winter 2026 graduates)

Part 1 of this  OPT application workshop is for students who are graduating the Winter 2026 quarter with a degree conferral of April 2, 2026. Part 1 focuses on making the endorsement request in Bechtel Connect, the online I-765, and the USCIS application packet.

Part 2 is for students who have completed the application packet and will focus on reviewing your application as well answering application questions in a group format. Part 2 will not be recorded.

Have plans for a summer internship? Want to do an internship or off-campus employment during the fall, winter, or spring? This workshop covers all aspects of CPT and answers student questions.

Visas Beyond Stanford workshops [H-1B, O-1, Permanent Residency, etc.]

These workshops are offered by Bay Area immigration lawyers. They are intended for international students who may be interested in knowing more about employment visas once their stay at Stanford is completed. Bechtel is not liable for the advice and information provided in these workshops.

Maintaining Your Legal Status while on Post-Completion OPT (for Spring 2025 graduates)

This quarterly session covers how to remain compliant with F-1 rules and regulations while on Post-OPT. Topics include using the SEVP Portal to report employment and address changes, travel while on OPT, renewing visa, applying for the STEM Extension, and more. There will also be a Q&A at the end of the session.

STEM Extension OPT Workshop

This STEM Extension OPT application workshop is for students who have graduated and are on Post Completion OPT. This workshop focuses on the steps to apply for the STEM Extension OPT, including what is eligible employment, completing the I-983 and making the endorsement request in Bechtel Connect, as well as the online I-765 and reporting requirements.

Demystifying Travel for F-1 and J-1 students

Who is excited for spring break and making summer travel plans? This lunch time session will take a comprehensive look at the documents you need for travel and provide some necessary tips to help put your mind at ease before you leave the United States. This session will be recorded and posted to our website.

Hot Topics in International F-1/J-1 Student Employment: Tax Withholdings

The session is for all students but with a special emphasis on PhD students with fellowships. A representative from SSC will explain what tax withholdings are, how they impact tax filing, etc.
