Dear Students,

At a time that we know is full of concern and uncertainty for many international students, we write to assure you that the university is closely monitoring immigration and travel-related executive orders and enforcement actions by federal agencies. As we learn about students who may be impacted, we will make every effort to notify them quickly and connect them to resources and expert advice for assistance. We also want to reiterate the university’s deep commitment to all of our students and scholars from abroad and remind you of the services and resources available to help you:

  • The immigration advisers and specialists at the Bechtel International Center are the best campus resource for information about visa types, requirements and restrictions for obtaining your visa, traveling in and out of the US, employment in the US, and maintaining your status. Bechtel staff can also refer you to other offices and resources on campus based on your particular situation and needs. If you have questions about your immigration status, start by contacting Bechtel.
  • We also recommend that you regularly visit Stanford’s Immigration website for the latest immigration-related news and updates, information, and guidance for various scenarios, including emergencies. This website also provides a comprehensive listing of university support services for students and community resources, including the Law School’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic.
  • If you are in need of personal or emotional support or have concerns about how changing immigration policies and orders may affect your academics, please reach out to any of these university offices:

We know this is a challenging time for many of you. We encourage you to stay informed and to reach out to Bechtel International Center if you have questions or concerns about your status. Stanford prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of all of our students and is committed to do everything possible to support you as you pursue your studies.

Sincerely,

Michele Rasmussen, Vice Provost for Student Affairs

Shalini Dev Bhutani, Assistant Vice Provost and Executive Director of Bechtel International Center
