Travel Guidance

See the latest guidance on international travel posted by the Bechtel International Center. Read more below.

Dear International Students and Scholars,

As we approach the new calendar year, we have received some questions about international travel. We don’t know if federal immigration policies may change in the period ahead, but this message contains some general guidance for your consideration. We are also scheduling a Town Hall via Zoom next week to hear your concerns and to provide any guidance that we can offer at this time. Please see the meeting details below.

We encourage you to assess your own individual tolerance for risk as you make decisions about international travel, particularly if you are from a country that was impacted by a travel ban imposed previously. Please know that Stanford’s ability to assist you could be constrained by federal immigration policy changes. In addition, there may be delays in visa issuance at posts and consulates abroad in the coming months (and years), so please allow for additional time for this process.

As always, it will continue to be important to have your documents in order when you travel: make sure the latest I-20/DS-2019 is printed and signed and has a valid travel signature and make sure your passport and visa stamp are valid as well.

Please review Bechtel’s webpage on travel for further information.

We anticipate there could be more immigration changes in the months to come and we will be providing updates and guidance to our international community as these become known. If you have any questions or concerns, please join our Town Hall next week:
