Travel Guidance - March 17th, 2025
As we look forward to the spring break travel period, we are receiving questions about international travel. This message contains some travel and visa issuance guidance for your consideration as well as information about a March 18 webinar about a new immigration registration requirement.
It is possible that some immigration policies may change, which could impact our international community over the next few weeks and months. We encourage you to assess your individual tolerance for risk as you make decisions about international travel over spring break and beyond. Keep in mind that visa appointments at U.S. consulates and embassies may be backlogged and the visa issuance process may be delayed.
If you have questions about an expired visa stamp in your passport, please send an email to internationalstudents@stanford.edu (for students) or internationalscholars@stanford.edu (for scholars/employees).
As always, it is important to have your documents in order when you travel internationally: please make sure your latest I-20/DS-2019 is printed and signed and has a valid travel signature from an immigration advisor at Bechtel, and make sure your passport and visa stamp are valid as well.
This Tuesday at 3 p.m. the Stanford Law School Immigrants’ Rights Clinic and partner Van Der Hout, LLP, will offer a free webinar for community members who may be impacted by the registration requirements and/or interested in learning more about the requirement.
We will continue monitoring any forthcoming changes to immigration policy closely and will update you as we’re able. If you have specific questions or concerns about your upcoming travel or would like to speak to an immigration adviser for any reason, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
