Role
- Serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO)
- Advises F-1/J-1 international students on visa and immigration compliance issues
- Processes administrative immigration requests (including work authorization endorsements) for F-1 and J-1 international students and J-1 UGVI student interns
- Co-coordinates New Graduate Student Orientation
- Co-manages the @bechtelstudents Instagram account
- Collaborates with various Stanford departments to host timely student workshops, primarily on the subject of F-1 and J-1 student employment and general tax information
Background
Alexandro has been working at the Bechtel International Center since 2022. He is passionate about international education, specifically supporting and facilitating cross-cultural exchange opportunities, and advocating on behalf of marginalized student populations in higher education. His experience in international education and student services spans over 10+ years across various institutions and geographic settings. Prior to working at Stanford, Alexandro served as an international student advisor at the International Students & Scholars Center (ISSC) at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, and taught English to university students in Rabat, Morocco through the auspices of a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. Alexando also holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and two Masters degrees (Master of Arts in international education management and a Master of Public Administration).
Fun Facts
- Alexandro was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, raised primarily in Las Vegas, Nevada, and holds dual Mexican and American citizenship.
- Alexandro has 3 pets: a mixed German Shepard named Charlie, a mixed Siamese longhair cat named Poseidon, and a calico colored longhair cat named Athena; he loves all his fur-babies dearly.
- Alexandro can speak French, Spanish, and some Arabic (mostly Modern Standard and Moroccan dialect).
- Alexandro is also a big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is an avid Marvel Comics comic collector (his current reading obsession is the “Amazing Spider-Man/Venom: Death Spiral” storyline).
