Background

Rui is a chemical engineer by training, with a PhD focused on catalysis and data-driven materials science. Originally from China, she spent over a decade studying and working in South Korea as a Chemical Engineer before moving to the United States. She came to Stanford to accompany her husband during his postdoctoral journey.

Beyond research, Rui is deeply engaged in the international community at Stanford through her work at the Bechtel International Center, where she supports students and scholars from around the world. Having lived across multiple cultures, she brings a thoughtful and empathetic perspective to her work and is passionate about creating a welcoming environment for people from diverse backgrounds.

Fun Facts

 Rui enjoys swimming, hiking, and has recently taken up pickleball. She hosts a podcast, Cross-cultural Stories, where she explores cross-cultural experiences through conversations with people from around the world.
